Ardentown trustees approve ARPA funding for rain garden, roadwork, playground safety and Glen bridges

Town Treasurer Peter Slattery and Public Works & Safety committee members reported remaining ARPA funds and recommended several local projects. Slattery said approximately $46,009.92 remained uncommitted before the meeting and reminded committees that ARPA monies must be allocated by the end of 2024 and spent by the end of 2026. Lisa Wilson Riblett explained proposals for drainage and roadwork to address water pooling and runoff toward Pettit Green.
The trustees approved using ARPA funds for two line items: (1) the Henry George Green rain garden and curb work (combined allocation $25,000 for the rain garden and related curb permitting/cut-outs) and (2) repaving Woodland/Orchard with grading to direct runoff toward the Pettit Green rain garden (up to $28,000). The motion passed unanimously.
Committee reports also recorded a motion to use $2,000 of ARPA funds for playground safety upgrades (approved unanimously) after Cortney Hayflinger reported on mulch and fall-zone needs and estimates for materials and labor. Trustees additionally reported that Cropper, Inc. has begun rebuilding four small bridges and steps into the Glen; Lisa Wilson Riblett said that work will be paid from ARPA money and a grant from the Outdoor Recreation, Parks, and Trails Program totaling $20,853 with no expense to the Village or the Trust.
Committee members asked for inclusion in planning where work affects private leaseholds and for final bids before contracts are signed; the minutes note Lisa Wilson Riblett emphasized that approved ARPA-funded projects require signed contracts by Dec. 31, 2024.
Next steps: committees will finalize bids and contracts this fall; trustees and Public Works & Safety will report back to the town once bids and schedules are confirmed.
