The Town of Bellefonte adopted Ordinance 2026-02 on Feb. 9 to accept the updated New Castle County property tax assessments.
At the meeting, commissioners conducted a second reading in title only. Scott MacKenzie moved to accept the second reading and approve the ordinance; Logan Ritchie seconded and the motion carried with all in favor. The minutes note that Scott will convey the results to New Castle County and arrange for publication in the News Journal.
Commissioners treated the ordinance as an administrative acceptance of county assessment figures rather than a change to the town's tax methodology; earlier in the meeting they had said they did not intend to change how the town calculates real estate taxes in light of the county reassessments.
No amendments or recorded objections were made during the vote. The minutes record the procedural steps taken for reading and adoption and the follow-up administrative task assigned to Scott MacKenzie for notification and publication.
