At the March 23 council meeting Jordan Martin of Stolly Insurance presented options for renewing the village’s employee medical insurance and outlined projected costs for each alternative.
Martin told council the current Anthem level-funded program shows a significant loss ratio, with claims exceeding village contributions; negotiations produced an Anthem renewal option with a 16.5% increase, which Martin estimated would cost the village roughly $40,000 more annually. Martin also presented a Gap plan that would add secondary coverage to the Anthem plan: the Anthem deductible would increase but the Gap plan would cover the latter half of the deductible, keeping an employee’s effective deductible unchanged. Martin estimated the Gap option would raise village costs by about 5.68%, or roughly $14,000 annually.
Other plan options reviewed by the broker carried higher deductibles or were described as non-competitive bids. Council did not take final action; members will review the presented options and decide at the next meeting, according to the minutes. The item is recorded as First Reading Ordinance 2026-03-06 (Medical Insurance Renewal), effective May 1, 2026 if adopted.
No council member made a final motion on benefits at this meeting; the record shows the council requested time to consider the alternatives before casting a vote.
