Ardentown approves 2025 budget, lowers speed limit to 15 mph and grants chair settlement authority

At the Village of Ardentown’s May 12 meeting, trustees approved several formal motions affecting village governance, public safety and finances.
Budget: Alison Wakelin presented the proposed final 2025–2026 Town Budget. A motion to approve the budget was seconded and recorded in the minutes as "All in favor." The minutes do not record a numeric vote tally for the budget approval.
SEM litigation authority: The meeting addressed ongoing litigation with SEM (formerly Trash Tech). The board voted to give Town Chair Melissa Parsonson authority to make decisions for Ardentown on any potential settlement with SEM. Speed limit: Peter Slattery moved to reduce the speed limit on all Ardentown roads from 20 mph to 15 mph. The motion was seconded and passed with a recorded vote of 39 in favor, 0 opposed and 1 abstention.
Elections and appointments: A slate of committee re-elections and appointments were approved unanimously, including re-elected Archives committee members, Memorial Garden committee members, the Town Secretary appointment of Jessica Riggleman, the Audit Committee slate, re-appointment to the Playground Committee and the Public Works & Safety Committee seats. Each motion was recorded as passed with unanimous support.
