The Judicial Nominating Commission approved applications for recertification and the initial certification of listed senior judges at its Dec. 10 meeting, Chief Justice Rush presiding.
Chief Justice Rush called for approval of the applications as presented on the public agenda and asked members to vote. "All those in favor of approving the applications for the recertification for senior judge, as listed on the agenda in the public minutes, as well as the applications for certification of senior judge for the first time with the exception of Mr. Hockman...all those in favor say aye," the chief justice said; the room responded with a chorus of "ayes," and the motion passed.
Members had briefly clarified the motions beforehand. One member moved to approve both the recertifications and first-time certifications; another seconded. Chief Justice Rush then asked whether a separate motion should be made for entries that lacked senior judge days. Molly responded and specified that Mr. Hockman would be excepted. The original mover withdrew their motion so the commission could proceed with Molly's motion. A committee member who had earlier moved the motion said, "I'll withdraw my motion."
The commission noted explicitly that Mr. Hockman was excepted "for the reason that there were no senior judge days given this year." After the voice vote, Chief Justice Rush moved the meeting into the agenda item on judicial qualifications.
No public-agenda items were raised before that transition.
