State JRAC communications workgroup to build onboarding toolkit, webinars and outreach to local JRACs

Michelle told the workgroup the communications team met in April to review existing online resources and gathered feedback from subject-matter partners. The team will meet again June 25 and aims to produce two immediate action items — website updates and outlines for onboarding materials — to circulate to subject-matter experts for content.
Members urged a layered approach: a general orientation for all new members supplemented by stakeholder-specific modules for sheriffs, commissioners, prosecutors and probation staff. Judge Spitzer suggested pushing an orientation toolkit (documents, short videos, webinars) to local JRACs at the start of the year or immediately after elections so new appointees understand JRAC purpose and duties.
Angela and others said one of the biggest local challenges is that some statutorily required members do not understand why they sit on JRAC or what to bring to meetings; they recommended small local projects (e.g., unified recidivism definitions, basic DOC data requests) to give members concrete tasks and sustain engagement.
Staff and members discussed using successful county examples (Grant County was mentioned) and identifying subject-matter experts who can act as peer contacts to encourage uptake. Those materials and outreach will be coordinated through the communications workgroup in partnership with data and TA staff.
