Acworth swears in three police leaders after promotional assessments

Three officers in the Acworth Police Department were sworn into new ranks at the Acworth City Council meeting on March 5, 2026, following the department’s annual promotional assessments.

Chief Cheetum told the council the department’s assessment process includes standardized testing on state law, constitutional law, city ordinances and department policies, followed by practical exercises and oral interviews. Three officers were identified through that process and were sworn in during the council meeting.

The officers recognized were Corporal Campezy (assigned to uniform patrol and noted as a 2023 hire), Sergeant Cody Lumpkin (who began his career with the city in 2015 and was promoted through the ranks after service in special operations and training certifications) and Lieutenant Veter (whose public safety career began as a dispatcher in 1985 and who was described as the incoming commander of the Criminal Investigations Division). The chief summarized each officer’s education, certifications and prior assignments and said the promotions reflect the department’s leadership pipeline.

The officers affirmed the oath to support and defend the U.S. and Georgia constitutions and to enforce applicable laws and ordinances. City leaders and other council members offered congratulations after the swearing-in.

The promotions take effect immediately and, according to the chief’s remarks at the meeting, will align those officers to specific shifts and responsibilities within the uniform patrol and investigations divisions.
