Save Acworth History Foundation reviews programs, unveils storyboards and scholarships

Becca Kel, president of the Save Acworth History Foundation, told the council on Feb. 19 that the nonprofit’s work over the past year included a lecture series, oral-history interviews and a growing YouTube archive of more than 200 videos.
Kel thanked the city for its support and highlighted new public-history projects: six dedicated storyboards that honor Acworth’s historic churches and a Women of Acworth banner series currently displayed at the community center. The group also awards scholarships to college and high-school history students; this year’s recipients included Alexandria Courier (whose mother is Andrea) and Anna Varnner from Allatoona High School.
“We really appreciate that. I know not all cities do,” Kel said, thanking the city for backing nonprofit programming. Andrew Braramlet, who composes storyboards and works on archival projects, said the new displays are intended to spread local history across downtown and to encourage broader public reading and engagement.
The foundation said it will continue oral-history work, fundraising and outreach, and invited suggestions for future interview subjects and projects.
