Susan Melton and Betty Dailey addressed the Arcade City Council Aug. 11, 2025, saying their father died in March and left The Depot Tavern and adjoining property at 20 Peppers Street to his children. They asked whether they could reopen the bar if it remained ‘‘exactly the same as it was before’’ within one year of their father’s death, and whether the city could deed and close a portion of Peppers Street so they could close an existing gate.
City Attorney Jody Campbell responded that he would need to examine the property and research whether deeding or closing the portion of Peppers Street is possible. He advised the family to consult a private attorney about the one‑year timing question. Campbell said the city would contact Ms. Melton once he had completed his investigation about the road question.
The minutes record the request and the attorney’s commitment to investigate; the record does not show a final decision on reopening the business or on the street closure.
