The Wadena-Deer Creek School Board convened its regular and organizational meeting Jan. 21, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in the Robertson Theatre. Dan Lawson was elected board chair by acclamation after being nominated by Julie Bushinger.
During the opening of the meeting Lawson, Barb Tumberg and Amanda Schmidt were sworn in as school board members and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. The board recognized AAA Award winners Montana Carsten and Kobe Snyder and EXCEL Award winners Anna Fiemeyer and Grant Nelson.
A roll-call vote for vice chair produced a three-way split: Brandon Kern, Melissa Seelhammer and Amanda Schmidt voted for Kern; Bushinger, Tumberg and Lawson voted for Bushinger. The tie left the vice-chair office open; the minutes record that the board will place the item on the next meeting agenda.
The meeting also included nomination and acclamation votes for clerk and treasurer: Barb Tumberg was elected clerk by acclamation, and Melissa Seelhammer was elected treasurer by acclamation.
No public debate or further action on the vice-chair tie was recorded. The board adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
