Arcade council approves business license, contract increase, permit renewals and municipal funding items

At its Oct. 13 meeting the Arcade City Council approved a business license for Platinum Tax Pros, a 2.4% Waste Pro price increase, a $250 event sponsorship (one abstention), renewal of a GDOT speed-detection permit, authorization to accept credit-card payments at City Hall, and authorized the 2026 LMIG application; several votes were unanimous.
The Arcade City Council on Oct. 13, 2025, moved forward on a slate of routine municipal items, approving a new business license, a contract price increase, event sponsorship, permit renewal and grant application authorizations.
Council Member Ron Smith moved to approve a business license for Yulanda Slaughter to operate Platinum Tax Pros Inc. at 3156 Athens Hwy., Suite C, Jefferson, GA; the motion was seconded by Jenny Buley and passed unanimously.
The council approved a 2.4% price increase requested by Waste Pro after a motion by Ron Smith and second by Jenny Buley; the motion passed unanimously.
Council approved a $250 premier sponsorship to the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson for the Scarecrow Scrambler 5K (Oct. 25, 2025) on a motion by Ron Smith, seconded by Jenny Buley; the minutes record the motion passing with four votes in favor and Council Member Tom Hays abstaining.
Council authorized the mayor to sign the renewal of the Georgia Department of Transportation speed detection device permit on a motion by Ron Smith, seconded by Jenny Buley; the vote was unanimous.
Council Member Jenny Buley moved to approve an application to begin processing credit card payments for City Hall; Ron Smith seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Council Member Cindy Bone moved to approve the 2026 LMIG application and authorized the mayor to sign the application; Ron Smith seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting also included a routine approval of previously unapproved minutes from Sept. 8, 2025; those motions passed unanimously. A public comment was recorded from Wes Donaldson, who thanked the council.
The council adjourned after setting the date for the Annual Christmas Potluck & Tree Lighting for Dec. 5, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.
