Walnut Grove council approves wastewater clarifier replacement, well repairs and ambulance aid

The Walnut Grove City Council voted on Jan. 13, 2025 to fund several infrastructure and emergency-service needs. Public works representative Kerwin Armitage told the council the wastewater plant’s final clarifier "is in very poor condition and will need to be replaced," and presented a $98,798 quote from Crane Engineering. Motion by Dale Shannon, seconded by Dylan Albertson to approve the Crane Engineering quote passed unanimously.

Armitage also reported that Thein Well Service found a major hole in the pipe under well #1’s seal; the repair cost was reported at $12,257.50. Council approved the well repair on a motion by Dylan Albertson, seconded by Sue West.

Ambulance Director Kristy Baker reported the Walnut Grove Ambulance Service received a one-time Minnesota Emergency Ambulance Service Aid payment for 2025 totaling $51,478; Baker said the funds may be used for equipment, training, retention, payroll and operating expenses. Fire Chief Andy Foster reported maintenance and repairs totaling $3,618 to a 2009 Freightliner tanker; the council approved payment for those repairs.

Council asked staff to seek at least one more quote for a proposed lean-to roof over the clarifier (a Baker Construction estimate was presented) before deciding on that ancillary work. The council also approved Resolution 2025-0113 establishing rules for city parks and properties and granted a one-day temporary liquor license to the Walnut Grove American Legion for Feb. 9, 2025. The meeting ended after approving claims and past meeting minutes.
