Walnut Grove buys property under Welcome sign, appoints insurance agency and affirms municipal tort limits

At its April 14 meeting the Walnut Grove City Council approved several administrative actions including a land purchase, an insurance-agency appointment and a decision on municipal tort liability.
Tom Hansen reported he attended the forfeited tax auction on March 26, 2025 and, acting under prior council authorization, purchased the parcel of land on which the Welcome to Walnut Grove sign sits to ensure the city would retain the property. The minutes record the cost as $1,867.80.
The council appointed Knakmuhs Insurance as the city’s agency of record by motion (mover: Dale Shannon; seconder: Dylan Albertson); the motion carried unanimously. Council also voted that the City of Walnut Grove does not waive the monetary limits on municipal tort liability established by Minnesota Statutes Section 466.04 (mover: Sue West; seconder: Dale Shannon); that motion also carried unanimously.
Council approved claims numbered 45012–45075 and approved minutes for the March 10, 2025 regular meeting and the March 31, 2025 public hearing/special meeting. Finally, the council moved and approved opening the Board of Appeals and Equalization public hearing at 8:00 PM and later adjourned.
