Walnut Grove adds three volunteer firefighters; EMS member passes EMT-B exam

The Walnut Grove City Council on April 14 approved three new volunteer members for the Walnut Grove Fire Department and heard updates on EMS training and retirements.
Fire Chief Andy Foster reported that several firefighters are completing classes and that Randy Tietz and Dustin Vandewiele will retire from the department this year. Foster said he applied for a contribution from Arvig to cover internet at the fire hall and described a new mapping system being rolled out in Redwood County.
Foster asked the council to approve adding three new members to the department. Dale Shannon moved and Sue West seconded a motion to approve David Lee, Taylor Eisfeld and Blaine VanMeveren as new members. The minutes record that "All voted in favor, motion carried." The council did not record conditions or probationary terms in the minutes.
Beth Bjorklund, identified as EMS coordinator, reported that Elias Lorenzo passed his EMT-B class and the national exam; one additional person is currently attending classes.
