Weslaco ISD details bond‑funded upgrades: turf, vestibules, HVAC, pool design and new agriculture facility

Security vestibules and window film installations were in process as part of HB2 compliance at elementary and secondary campuses, and multiple roofing and HVAC projects are staged for completion before the start of school where possible.
Administration said the Weslaco High School swimming facility is out for bids and noted drainage and grading work associated with turf installations to prevent runoff damage to fields and adjacent courts. Dr. Rivera also noted the Pete Abrego Agriculture Science Facility has board approval and is progressing through design and procurement.
Trustees asked for completion timetables for key items. Staff reported Weslaco East High vestibule work was pending final access‑control parts and expected to wrap up in the coming weeks; HVAC coil parts for locker rooms had been ordered with expected delivery within two to three weeks but no hard delivery date was available. Trustees requested a written tracker for vestibules, HVAC needs, restroom renovation status and any roof damage or insurance claims resulting from recent rains. Facilities staff committed to providing updates and to documenting vendor claims and repairs through risk management and principals’ reports.
The board thanked staff for the work and requested more detailed, simplified updates the board can share with the public before students return in August.
