Board allows escorted access amid public hearing on 206 Allen Drive after police search

The Service Board held a public hearing for 206 Allen Drive after the police executed a search warrant and posted an order to vacate the property following alleged illegal activity on the premises.

The superintendent described that the mayor and police had seen photographs of the property and that arrests had been made; one of the charges mentioned in the record was manufacturing methamphetamine. The property is under an order to vacate pending county testing for contamination, the superintendent said, and staff emphasized that the house must be cleared and tested before re-occupancy.

An owner present asked to be allowed a brief, escorted entry to find keys to a vehicle and a computer cord. Becky stated she wanted to retrieve keys from her father's van and a computer cord that had been borrowed. Kathy, speaking in support, said she would be the police officer accompanying the owner: "I'm a police officer coming with," Kathy said. The board moved, seconded and approved escorted access so the owner could retrieve the requested items.

The board did not authorize re-entry beyond retrieving those items and reiterated the requirement that the property be tested for meth contamination before anyone may move back in. Staff will coordinate with the police department on the escorted retrieval and follow-up testing and will return with any further recommendations to the board.
