Walker council adopts preliminary 2025 budget and certifies tax levy hearing

The Walker City Council adopted a preliminary 2025 budget and certified the Truth and Taxation meeting on Sept. 19, approving Resolution 41-2024 by a 5-0 roll-call vote.
Councilmember Jim Senenfelder moved to adopt the preliminary budget and levy, and Councilmember Char Moore seconded. The roll call recorded Councilmembers Mary Beth Hansen, Char Moore, Jim Senenfelder, Gary Wilkening and Mayor Jerecho Worth voting aye; there were no nays.
During discussion under Personnel, Budget & Administration, councilmembers and staff said the city’s strong interest revenue is expected to help sustain a lower levy for about two to three years but that the levy would most likely not decrease further at final approval in December. Administrator Hope Fairchild explained that the Oct. 7 council meeting location was changed to the Walker Fire Hall because the Northwest Area Project assessment hearing had been advertised for that location.
Resolution 41-2024 is a preliminary adoption and sets the agenda for the statutory Truth and Taxation process; final levy certification is scheduled later this year. The council did not take further amendments or votes on the levy at the Sept. 19 meeting.
The council adjourned at 5:11 p.m.
