District transportation official outlines consolidated stops and monthly ridership tracking for 2025–26

Royal showed an example route (Route 9) and told trustees that to increase efficiency the district will consolidate out-of-district pickups to a closest in-district stop rather than door-to-door stops near students’ homes. He emphasized safety on busy roads, saying students will be dropped off on the proper side of the street so they do not have to cross state or other busy roads.
Royal told the board that ridership counts are still settling at the start of the year and that the district expects higher bus use in winter weather. “We’ll start doing ridership surveys starting next month and we’ll kind of try to hold those every month just to track the ebb and flow of the students,” he said.
Board members asked when a complete ridership tally would be available; Royal replied the district is still adding students and will use the monthly surveys to produce more reliable numbers. The presentation included printed route maps for trustees for detailed review.
Next steps: staff will run the monthly surveys and report back to the board with updated ridership counts and any operational adjustments.
