Resident seeks to buy Hallock lot; council tables sale after utility and flood-plain questions

A Hallock resident asked the City Council on Oct. 7 to consider selling Parcel 32.0008300 on 9th Street for residential development, but councilors tabled the request and asked staff to provide more information about utilities and costs.
Ron Anderson presented a Moore Engineering survey that, he said, shows “ample room to construct a new home.” Anderson said he would like to move forward to clean up the lot and increase tax base. Administrator Kendra Kroening and Utility Superintendent Dan Larson cautioned that connecting to the city sanitary sewer likely would require a private lift station because of elevation and alignment constraints; Larson said a private lift station is done elsewhere in town but carries costs for pump and power. Mayor Dave Treumer asked staff to get final details and a price before the Nov. 4 meeting and tabled the item.
During public comment Kimberly Soberaski voiced opposition to selling the parcel and said she and others would be interested in purchasing it if the city sells the lot. Council did not vote on any sale or price and directed Administrator Kroening and Anderson to gather additional information for the November meeting.
