Hallock council approves dam project bids to use watershed funds before year-end; awards safety aid to fire and ambulance

Mayor Dave Treumer told the council Houston Engineering has received construction bids and said the work needs to be completed this year so watershed funding is not forfeited. Councilor Jen Peterson moved to proceed with the accepted bids for the Dam Project construction; the motion was seconded by Councilor Naomi Larson and approved unanimously.
Council also approved distribution of $39,034 in Certified Public Safety Aid, with half ($19,517) allocated to the Hallock Fire Department and half to the Kittson County Ambulance. Councilor Peterson made the motion for the split; Councilor Larson seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The council recorded that Anderson Construction had signaled readiness to proceed if given authorization. Mayor Treumer said he did not want to proceed on his own and sought formal council approval before moving forward. The council gave that authorization at the Oct. 7 meeting.
Next steps include contract administration and scheduling work to meet the year-end funding deadline; staff did not specify a contractor start date at the meeting.
