Pinckneyville approves intergovernmental agreement to assign School Resource Officer to District 50

The Pinckneyville City Council approved Resolution R-2024-40 to place a School Resource Officer in Pinckneyville School District #50 from Nov. 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025; District #50 will pay half of the officer’s salary, pension and healthcare for hours worked for the district.
The Pinckneyville City Council on Oct. 14 approved Resolution No. R-2024-40 authorizing an intergovernmental agreement with Pinckneyville School District #50 to place a School Resource Officer in district kindergarten through eighth-grade buildings.
Commissioner Kevin B. Hicks introduced the resolution and said Police Chief Kenny Kelley selected Officer Ethan Beasley to serve as the assigned School Resource Officer. Under the agreement, District #50 will pay half of Officer Beasley’s salary, pension and healthcare for the hours he works for the district. The term runs Nov. 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025, and the agreement automatically renews until notice of non-renewal is provided.
City Attorney Don Bigham noted the police department will assign the officer’s hours based on department availability while the department is short-handed and that the officer receives specialized training for the school role. The council placed the resolution on file and approved it by unanimous roll call.
The agreement is intended to provide a dedicated officer for K–8 buildings while sharing personnel costs with the school district; the council did not set additional conditions at the meeting. If either party gives notice, the automatic renewal stops, per the terms discussed at the meeting.
