Hallock council orders floodplain survey after resident expresses interest in parcel

The Hallock City Council on Aug. 6 authorized a survey to stake the floodplain on Parcel 32.0008300 after a resident indicated interest in buying the lot to build a house.
Resident Ronald Anderson told the council he was interested in possibly purchasing the parcel and said the floodplain on the lot "is quite small." Mayor David Treumer said he was "very leery to give up any land in the flood plain because we do not have control if we need to change river elevations," and suggested retaining floodplain land. Councilor Kevin Waller said the council could split the parcel so the high ground could be sold while keeping the floodplain.
Mayor Treumer moved to survey and stake out the floodplain so the exact lines could be seen; the motion was seconded by Councilor Waller and carried unanimously. Council documents indicate the survey will be used to determine whether and how much of the lot could be sold without transferring floodplain areas that the city prefers to retain.
