Slayton library reports strong summer reading turnout and announces winners

Library staff reported increased summer activity — about 2,447 visitors between June 1 and Aug. 15, nearly 5,000 checkouts, 33 programs with 563 participants, and a Reading Dragons challenge with 63 sign-ups and 22 completed trackers; prize winners were Maggie Keller, Adakus Punt and Emerson Magnus.
Duana, representing the city library, told the council the library saw a busy summer with robust program participation and checkouts.
From June 1 through Aug. 15 the library recorded roughly 2,447 visits and nearly 5,000 checkouts over the summer program period. The library ran 33 programs with 563 participants and revived the "Reading Dragons" summer challenge: 63 children signed up, 22 completed their reading trackers submitting a combined 327 hours of reading. Duana asked the council to draw winners at the meeting; the selected winners are Maggie Keller (book-nerd basket), Adakus Punt (Team Chomp basket) and Emerson Magnus (Team Bacon basket). Staff will contact winners the following day.
Why it matters: the numbers indicate library use returning to pre-renovation levels and demonstrate community engagement with library programming. Council thanked Duana for the report and the city will continue to publicize programs that yielded strong participation.
