Library staff Angela Pick told the Hanska City Council the library received a $2,000 grant from the New Ulm Area Foundation to support the 2025 Summer Reading program and that the library will be open with extra hours and activities during MEA weekend. Pick described a planned pumpkin activity and a proposed 'No Smashing Pumpkins' club; she and Public Works staff Tauer discussed coordinating pumpkin disposal at the city compost site.
On facilities, the council discussed furnace repair bids for the library. Council member Larson moved to obtain two quotes from Nielsen and GSM for furnace work and to proceed with the least expensive option; Council member Miller seconded and the motion passed.
Council member Larson also reported that Mayo One conducted helicopter training for the fire department on Oct. 7. Public Works staff Tauer provided an estimate from Mike's Collision to City Clerk Karen Haala for a van repair. Tauer said he will be out of the office Oct. 16–18 and that crews are working on branch removal. City Clerk Karen Haala said she is continuing training for the position and is working to gain access to financial accounts.
