Statham council adds first reading of road‑dedication ordinance, considers golf‑cart purchase and routine business

The Statham City Council on Sept. 2 amended its agenda to add a first reading of Ordinance O-25-08, an ordinance to accept the dedication of roads in Statham Place, and to include discussion of a proposed golf cart purchase for city use. The council approved prior meeting minutes and received routine department and committee reports.
City Attorney Jody Campbell explained the legal and procedural steps required to accept dedicated roads and announced the first reading of O-25-08, the ordinance to accept the dedication of roads for Statham Place. Campbell outlined the process for staff review and council consideration but there was no final vote on the ordinance at the meeting.
Public Works Director Brett Day presented quotes for a proposed golf cart purchase; the council reviewed the options but did not take a final purchasing vote. A new business license applicant, Naushad Vadsariya, spoke about taking ownership of Vintage Billiards. Library staff member Janet Williams provided fall program and event information for the Statham Library.
During citizen input, Denny Adams and Joe Piper each spoke about city spending; Eddie Nelson was listed but did not speak; and Steven Crowe raised concerns about speeding on 6th Street and asked about speed bumps or other traffic calming. The meeting adjourned at 7:17 p.m.
Procedural votes recorded at the meeting included a 5‑0 approval to amend the agenda to add the ordinance reading and golf‑cart discussion (moved by Councilmember Patterson, seconded by Councilmember Penn), approval of minutes (moved by Councilmember Penn, seconded by Councilmember Burnette), and the motion to adjourn (moved by Councilmember Patterson, seconded by Councilmember Burnette).
