“Motion made by Selectman Vailette to approve proposed settlements in the following pending tax appeals: 12-20 Mill Plain Road 250 East Main Street 270 and 278 East Main Street and 7-11 Mill Plain Kidds Island 129 Johnson's Point 91 Stony Creek Road 19 Queach Road 125 Johnson's Point 133 Johnson's Point 111 Johnson's Point 15 Spring Road 3-5 Bryan Road 3 Cresent Bluff 259 Linden Avenue,” Selectman Jeffrey E. Vailette said when making the motion. Selectman Raymond Dunbar seconded and the vote was unanimous.
The board had moved into an executive session at 6:01 p.m. “to discuss pending tax appeals,” a motion recorded in the minutes; Attorney James Perito attended that portion of the meeting by cellphone. The minutes record the board’s return to the regular meeting at 6:16 p.m. and state that no votes were taken while in executive session.
The approved motion lists numerous properties by address; the minutes do not include settlement amounts or further terms for the individual cases. The action resolves litigation exposure for those specific assessed properties and allows the town and property owners to close those appeals without further public hearings.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 6:25 p.m.
