Council approves public-works purchases, staffing steps and small equipment overrun

The council approved a set of public-works actions Feb. 10, including equipment purchases, a small contract cost increase and a staffing plan.
George Valvoda with PeopleService requested authority to purchase a magnetic locator and a phosphorus tester for the water and wastewater treatment plants, to be funded from the maintenance account balance of approximately $3,400; Councilmember Garret Pearson moved to approve the purchases and Councilmember Al Siedow seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
Separately, council approved an additional $210 to cover a price increase for an SBR gearbox previously approved at $1,000; Councilmember Garret Pearson moved and Councilmember Al Siedow seconded the motion, which passed.
On staffing, the council noted 13 applications had been received for the public-works employee position; once the application period closes each council member will select their top six candidates for the personnel committee interviews, with final interviews by the full council.
Public Works employee Alan Teich reported that Knife River billed Harris in error for product intended for North Branch; he confirmed the invoice did not apply to Harris.
