Hanover Park Board outlines park upgrades, begins capital-improvement planning

The Hanover Park Board on May 27, 2025 agreed to begin research and create a capital improvement plan covering six neighborhood parks, identifying specific projects and next steps for each site.
Park Board members Ben Brandhorst, Laurel Prairie, Faye Schnell and Melissa Sullivan—who attended the meeting—reported that the group and members of the City Council toured the parks and compiled a list of needs and future projects. Park Board member Briana Rupenthal was listed as absent. City Council members Gretchen Barrett, John Ganfield and Jim Zajicek and Mayor Greg Zgutowicz were also present; city staff in attendance included City Clerk and Assistant to the City Administrator Jenny Peterson, Public Works Supervisor Trent Brunn and City Administrator Jennifer Nash.
The board identified the following priorities and actions: - Settlers Park: the board directed staff to research options to update the park shelter, including remodeling the existing structure or building a new facility in the same location. - Mallard’s Landing Park: members asked that a pavement replacement project for the basketball court be added to the city’s Capital Improvement Plan. - Pheasant Run Park: officials reported the trail-extension bid will be awarded at the City Council meeting on June 3, 2025, establishing the procurement timeline. - Bridgeview Park: the board requested staff locate the agreement with the homeowners association to clarify which parties are responsible for specific areas and maintenance obligations. - Cardinal Circle Park: members asked staff to add a water fountain to planning and to research restroom options for the site. - Eagleview Park: the board placed future priority on making the park fully ADA/handicap accessible, which could include replacing playground equipment or installing workout equipment in place of existing equipment.
The Park Board said it will begin the research phase and incorporate these items into a capital improvement plan to guide future budgeting and work. Jenny Peterson attested to the minutes. The Pheasant Run trail-extension award is scheduled for the June 3 City Council meeting; the board’s further planning work will determine timing and funding for other projects.
