Hanover Park Board reviews events, community garden plans and records member resignation

The Hanover Park Board on July 23 recapped recent community events and assigned follow-up work on several park policies while recording a member resignation.
Chair Brandhorst and Council Liaison Greg Zgutowicz reported that Kids Night was "very well attended" and said Concerts in the Park, including the Michael Handler Project, have drawn good crowds. Board members discussed possible improvements for next year such as creating a larger animals area, adding hand-sanitizer stations and introducing additional attractions.
City Clerk Jenny Peterson told the board that, because of the events the board hosts, members need to attend both events and meetings; the board discussed scheduling members for events and meetings and agreed to firm up responsibilities. Faye Schnell shared an example community garden program from another city; the board asked staff to research locations, upkeep, policy and procedures and return with recommendations.
The board also discussed the Settlers Park Shelter rental and whether to adopt rental agreements for other park gazebos and whether to charge; members agreed to research rental policy options once park plans are finalized. Schnell presented an Adopt-a-Park program brochure and checklist for volunteer engagement.
During reports, board member Alex Holslin announced his resignation effective that evening. Council Liaison Greg Zgutowicz reported the Harvest Festival is in full swing. Chair Brandhorst and Peterson closed by thanking members for their participation. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. on a motion by Alex Holslin, seconded by Faye Schnell; the motion carried unanimously among members present.
