HANSKA — The Hanska City Council voted July 8 to hire Meidl Concrete to replace the curb in front of a resident’s home after a citizen raised concerns about a planned sidewalk repair.
Resident Ron Frederickson asked the council for an update on the curb in front of his house and said the sidewalk repair bid from Meidl Concrete was $30.00 per square foot with $200.00 for removal. Councilmembers discussed whether the curb could be completed at the same time as the sidewalk and whether a separate contractor should be sought for just the curb. Councilmember Miller moved to have Meidl Concrete replace the curb; Larson seconded and the motion passed.
During the same public-comment period, several property owners raised questions about billing for vacant or unoccupied properties. Keith Frederickson cited the city ordinance and asked to have his meter removed; council members said the city must follow the ordinance and does not bill unmetered properties. The council did not take further immediate action beyond noting the request and directing staff to follow the existing ordinance.
The council also approved the June 10 meeting minutes and city claims during routine business.
What happens next: Work arrangements and scheduling with Meidl Concrete will be handled by Public Works staff. The meter-removal request will be processed in line with the city ordinance, as discussed.
