Residents used public comment to praise a recently completed traffic circle and to ask the council to consider similar traffic‑calming measures and active‑transportation connections on Briarwood Road.
Zack Oyster told the council the Arrowwood/Palmetto/Spencer traffic circle "has worked fabulously" and urged the town to examine Briarwood Road for sidewalks, cart paths or other calming measures because he described it as “unsafe” and a speed corridor where police have difficulty enforcing speed.
A council member recounted a personal incident walking on Briarwood in which they were struck by a vehicle and spent months recovering, and urged the council to explore taking the Laurelwood crossing across Briarwood toward Palmetto, including potential small easements from willing residents. Councilmembers agreed to explore options and flagged right‑of‑way and cost considerations.
Council also noted the town will continue to prioritize recreation groups for scheduling fields but that exclusivity language in some field agreements will be reviewed during forthcoming contract discussions.
Next steps: staff and councilors said they would investigate engineering options, right‑of‑way constraints and possible funding sources for pedestrian and cart‑path improvements on Briarwood Road.
