Council appoints Warren Olsen as Sherburn mayor; Olsen sworn in at March meeting

The Sherburn City Council on March 16 adopted Resolution 2026-08 appointing Warren Olsen to fill a vacancy in the office of mayor under Minnesota Statute 412.02, subdivision 2. The council said it solicited letters of interest and received one eligible submission from Olsen.
The resolution states the appointee will serve until a successor is elected and qualified under state law. After the council vote, Olsen stood and recited the oath of office required by Minnesota law: "I, Warren Olsson, do solely swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Minnesota, and I will faithfully and impartially discharge the duties of the office of mayor of the city of Sherburn..." The transcript records the oath immediately after the resolution passed.
Council members said the appointment will ensure continuity of leadership until the next election. The council packet noted a March 11 deadline for letters of interest and that a second interested party did not live within Sherburn city limits and therefore was ineligible to apply.
The appointment followed routine roll-call voting by the council; the council then moved on to other agenda items. No election date for a successor was specified at the meeting.
