The Millinocket Public Schools board voted to adopt a set of updated policies that together form the district's revised student code of conduct and also approved a school nurse job description to align job duties with other updated descriptions.
The policy package read into the record included codes cited as JIC (student code of conduct), JCA, JICG (tobacco use by students), policies on drug and alcohol use, and JCJ (student use of cell phones and electronic devices). A presenter told the board these revisions were intended to close loopholes and provide a uniform disciplinary framework so principals have explicit direction when addressing student behavior.
Board members asked whether the new policies would fill gaps from the prior year; the presenter said this package was designed to increase uniformity and fairness across buildings and that much of the content was drawn from the state's guidance on codes of conduct.
Separately, the board approved a school nurse job description that had been reviewed with the employee and updated to mirror the other job-description work the district has undertaken this year.
The board approved both the policy adoptions and the job description by voice vote with no roll-call tally given in the transcript. Next steps include publishing the updated code of conduct (the packet contains a chart referenced at the meeting) and posting the updated job description to district records.
