Council approves annexation request, schedules pollinator hearing and handles routine city business

At its Feb. 17 meeting, the Spring Grove City Council approved a range of routine items and next steps, including annexation of roughly 4 acres requested by resident Gregory Wennes and scheduling a public hearing on a pollinator ordinance.

Council Member Trent Turner moved to approve moving forward with annexing approximately four acres requested by Gregory Wennes; Council Member Eric Ostern seconded and the motion carried. Clerk/Administrator Jana Elton said she will contact the city attorney and coordinate with Wennes and his representative, Peter Marso, on next steps.

On policy, Council Member Turner moved to set a public hearing next month on a pollinator ordinance requested by Parks and Recreation; Council Member Ostern seconded and the motion carried. The City also approved the Spring Grove Area Chamber of Commerce's request to have city employees hang America 250 banners and agreed the Chamber may display both Norwegian and American flags during Syttende Mai, with the goal of displaying flags by the Fourth of July.

Other items included confirming Richards Sanitation has no objection to one-side alley placement of garbage and recycling totes (the city will not coordinate the effort), reviewing the EDA annual report (no action), noting the Hoods 4 Hero's grant application was submitted on Feb. 4 for the fire department (no action), and that Houston County Sheriff patrol hours for January had been accounted for. The council reviewed the LMC coverage waiver and voted not to waive limits on the waiver form.

No public comments were recorded during open forum, and the meeting adjourned at 6:52 p.m.
