City Clerk Shannon Geier told the Commission the city has received inquiries about mailbox installations and that the Post Office indicated mailbox placement is the city's responsibility. Because the Commission lacked specific policy language, members agreed to table the item pending development of a concrete procedure.
Commissioners asked staff to address several specific items when returning the policy for further consideration: include a $100 application fee; require a $1,000 escrow; set inspection fees at $50 for the first two inspections and $100 for a third inspection, if required; revise any one-size-fits-all driveway requirement; clarify the timeline and conditions for releasing escrow funds; determine whether driveways must be installed prior to building permit approval; clarify authority and requirements when a driveway is located on a Chisago County road; and consider adopting Chisago County driveway requirements or elevating the city policy to an ordinance.
The Commission did not vote on a final policy and directed staff to return with specific proposed language and cost figures for a future meeting.
