The Harris City Council voted Thursday to hire the law firm Flaherty & Hood as city attorney and approved soliciting interim contracts to grade and plow roads while the city repairs or replaces its grader. Councilmember Garret Pearson moved both measures and Councilmember Al Siedow seconded; the minutes record the votes as "all in favor" and the motions carried.
The attorney selection followed the withdrawal of the initial choice, Miller & Stevens, which the minutes say "withdrew their application." The council moved without further public discussion to hire Flaherty & Hood to fill the city attorney role.
On the grader issue, the council approved a short-term arrangement for contracting grading and plowing services, directing staff to request bids from Gustafson, Dirtworks and John Sutcliffs. The council also scheduled a special meeting to interview candidates and hire a Public Works Working Supervisor so the new hire can have input on the long-term decision about repairing or replacing the city's grader. The minutes state the council intends to make a final grader decision at the April council meeting.
