Council Debates Auditor Rotation; Directs Staff to Track Lead Auditors Rather Than Issuing RFP Now

Council members expressed mixed views. Some council members said the incumbent firm Rushton & Company has performed satisfactorily and that rotating the lead partner or senior reviewer would provide fresh eyes without the staff burden of a full RFP; staff noted that some firms do not prepare financial statements and that switching firms can impose significant staff workload during transition.
After discussion, council did not direct staff to issue an RFP immediately. Instead, council asked staff to document and track audit personnel who work on Tyrone's audit, to require periodic rotation of lead auditors/partners and to present auditor personnel information when the audit is presented to council. Staff said an RFP could be issued for the next audit cycle if council so directs in the future; no immediate procurement action was taken tonight.
