City Planner Claire Stickler presented an updated draft of the Accessory Dwelling Unit ordinance to the Harris Planning Commission at its Nov. 25 meeting. The draft retains a minimum dwelling-unit size of 750 square feet, removes language about exterior material color, clarifies that park model homes and tiny homes are not permitted, and adds a provision to ensure emergency-vehicle access.
The ordinance review is intended to refine local rules for separate or accessory living units on established lots. Stickler told commissioners that the draft references state residential code considerations and that the changes aim to balance smaller-unit housing options with safety and neighborhood character. The minutes note that the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the ADU ordinance at its Jan. 27 meeting; the ordinance will be scheduled for that hearing if the application is submitted by the filing deadline.
