During the public-comment portion of the April 1 meeting, a first-time attendee described detailed discrepancies in her household’s water and sanitation billing dating to late 2022 and asked the council for an explanation.
The resident said her water service was activated on Nov. 29, 2022, and that a 15-day billing period showed a charge of $87 for 1,200 gallons; she later received a full-month bill of 2,300 gallons for a lower amount, and she reported multiple months where cumulative payments left a remaining balance despite making extra payments. "I was charged $87 saying that I had used 1,200 gallons which I'm not sure how I could have done that when we weren't showering at that time," the resident said during her statement.
Clerk Marcy and other staff told the resident they would schedule a one-on-one review of her account and meter data; Marcy suggested the resident call the city building to arrange a meeting. Staff also explained the new metering system’s minimum-billing increment and agreed to examine whether the account shows any meter or recording errors.
Council did not take immediate action at the meeting beyond offering the account review; staff asked the resident to bring billing statements to the follow-up appointment so city staff can reconcile usage records and payments.
The council encouraged residents to contact the clerk for billing questions or to appear at a future meeting if concerns remain after the account review.
