"We'll take these back and review it, make sure all the math checks out," a staff member said after reading the bids. Other bidders announced included Milestone, Midwest Paving, ENB Paving, Brooks and an item that registered at $130,000 in the reading; the transcript contains fragmented figures for several bids and staff said they will confirm the exact amounts during the review.
Staff noted they have not previously worked with Howard Companies and said they will check references and follow up. The review is expected to be complete before the council's next meeting, scheduled for the first Tuesday of next month, and staff said they will provide a recommendation letter for the council to consider when awarding the work.
If the council accepts staff's later recommendation, the award will be presented at the council meeting for formal action. For now, no contract has been awarded and staff emphasized that the town will verify bid math and references before proceeding.
