Council hears call to seek RDC funding for wastewater upgrades, says water system more reliable

Edwardsport council members told the meeting that the town’s wastewater plant continues to have persistent problems and may need substantial capital work, and they agreed to pursue Regional Development Commission (RDC) funding.
A council member said the town ‘has a lot of issues with wastewater’ and that staff prepared a ‘‘dream list’ of needed upgrades to present to the RDC for potential funding and contracting out portions of the work. Danny said Matt had assembled the list and he would share copies with council members for review.
Council members contrasted the wastewater system with the town’s water system, which they said has benefited from recent upgrades including new hydrants, a completed water tower and backup generators. “I feel much more reliable or comfortable” with the water treatment system than with wastewater, one member said.
No formal motion to approve a funding request was taken at the meeting; members said they would review the list and consider next steps at a future meeting. The council also discussed tying the capital needs into RDC grant opportunities and agreed to circulate the write-up prepared by staff for additional review.
