Trustees order Post Office parking signs and discuss code-enforcement options for Main Street congestion

Trustee Martin Gitlin told the board Dec. 9 that parking on Main Street in front of the Post Office, Plume Coffee Bar and Plume Provisions has become increasingly congested and asked Chelsea to order two "Post Office Parking Only" signs.
Trustees agreed signage could help and noted the town has opened parking in front of the Town Shop to relieve downtown spaces. They stressed signage must meet Colorado Department of Transportation standards (quality and installation) and should not be temporary or placed on cones.
The board discussed enforcement options if signage and business cooperation do not solve the problem. Gitlin noted the town has an ordinance that would permit establishing a municipal court in the future; some trustees suggested contracting code-enforcement services such as Safe Built, which Georgetown uses, while expressing reluctance to create a strong police presence. Trustee Tammy Frey said the issue needs solving without establishing a police presence.
Trustees asked staff to solicit input from the two downtown business owners and assigned the clerk to order the signage. The board plans to review the situation in mid-January.
