Atkinson voters approved Warrant Article #14 to prohibit sale of a 5½-acre parcel on Maple Avenue and place the property into conservation in perpetuity, the Conservation Commission reported at its March 25 meeting.
Chair Bill Steele said a deed has been drafted to effect the transfer and that the document will be reviewed by the town attorney and submitted to the Board of Selectmen for their approval. Steele noted the warrant language specified no appropriation of town funds; however, there will be modest recording charges that the town may ask to cover at a later date.
The Commission’s report did not include an exact timetable for deed recording or an estimate for recording fees; Steele described the likely charges as small and said the town might ask for funds later to cover recording costs.
Members emphasized that the parcel will be placed in conservation in perpetuity under the approved warrant, and the Commission will follow up with the Board of Selectmen and town counsel to complete the transfer. No formal vote by the Commission was required that evening to accept the parcel into conservation; the next steps are attorney review and Selectmen action.
