Silver Plume trustees approve letter supporting $75,000 county trails grant

The Silver Plume Board of Trustees voted Sept. 23 to sign a letter of support for a Clear Creek County Trails Team application seeking a $75,000 Colorado Parks and Wildlife Non-Motorized Trails Maintenance Grant. Jon Butcher, representing the county trails group by Zoom, asked the town to endorse the application so the team could maintain county trails that include periodic work on the 7:30 Road and the Argentine Central Grade in Silver Plume.
The request required only the town's endorsement. Trustee Marty Gitlin moved that Silver Plume sign the support letter on town letterhead; Mark Basham seconded and the motion carried with all trustees in favor. Town Clerk Chelsea Nihiser provided an unsigned draft on Silver Plume letterhead for the mayor’s signature.
Why it matters: the requested CPW grant would pay for maintenance work on non-motorized trails that serve recreation and local access. The county trails team — which performs periodic trail work inside Silver Plume — told the board the grant would support continued upkeep of paths that local residents and visitors use.
The board did not approve any direct funding commitment from the town; the action was limited to providing a formal letter of support. The letter will be signed and transmitted on town stationery as the Trails Team finalizes its application.
