At its meeting, the New Library Siting Committee on behalf of East Haddam reviewed members’ backgrounds and divided early tasks for the library project, while adopting a 2026 meeting schedule.
Members each briefly described what they bring to the work — project management and technology (John Billett), interior architecture and facilities planning (Beth Dillon), fundraising and cemetery/public‑history outreach experience (Jim Lonergan), and decades of library experience (Shayne Jezik). The introductions were followed by a discussion of four initial work areas the committee will pursue; volunteers were assigned to review Connecticut accessibility guidelines (Evelyn and the Chair) and to lead the compilation of potential sites and site visit lists.
The committee moved to adopt the 2026 meeting schedule (first and third Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.) so staff would have room access until that time. Members were asked to notify the chair in advance of any conflicts that would affect quorum. The minutes from the previous meeting were also moved, seconded and approved; the transcript records the outcomes as accepted but does not include a detailed vote tally.
Next steps: volunteers will produce a short accessibility summary and a preliminary list of candidate sites for committee review; the committee plans to begin site visits toward the end of the summer.
