Council OKs $3,900 park fence, hears department reports and a planned Nov. 22 power outage

On Aug. 4 the Flora Town Council approved a $3,900 quote to install a two‑rail white vinyl fence along the east side of the park entrance and discussed further steps to secure the merchants barn after a post‑fair break‑in.
Council members approved the fence purchase by motion; staff will schedule installation. The council also agreed to inspect the merchant building doors and consider retrofit options to prevent future unauthorized access.
Department reports: a police representative said July produced 110 calls for service, three misdemeanor arrests, 10 citations and 99 warnings. The fire representative reported nine fire calls and six medical responses for July and said department staffing and equipment status are stable. Planning reported six permits issued in July (patio/pergola, fence, sidewalk, two pools and a screen porch).
Utility staff warned residents about a planned Duke Energy outage currently scheduled for the night of Nov. 22, about 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., that will affect the town of Flora; officials said they will issue a public alert closer to the date.
The council adjourned and set the next meeting for Monday, Sept. 8.
