Town public-works staff presented the need for a vacuum truck (used for vacuum excavation, utility work and cleanup) and said a ready grant previously obtained will reimburse the purchase. The selected unit is located out of state but immediately available; staff reported the purchase price as $529,620.19 and said used units run about $300,000.
Councilors moved, seconded and approved the purchase by voice vote. Staff noted multiple active projects that require the capability, including current water leaks and other priority maintenance tasks. The council discussed vendor quotes and a discount negotiated for not needing additional hauling or preparation.
Staff said the town expects to be reimbursed under the grant program and that the vehicle will support electric, wastewater and other utility functions. The council asked staff to proceed with procurement and to follow grant reimbursement procedures.
