Public works eyes cheaper meter option; well-field pump and electrical issues require repairs

Public works staff reported multiple water system maintenance and equipment items that will affect near-term operations and capital spending.
Staff said they would withdraw a $38,000 quote from TNT for a new meter after a vendor that sells drive-by meters (Roll Victory) proposed an alternative likely priced at one-third to one-half of the earlier quote. The vendor met with staff and promised a substantially lower-priced meter; staff said they will pursue that option rather than the higher-priced quote.
On regulatory compliance, staff said they revised and submitted the sanitary survey to IDM and confirmed system compliance. Staff also ordered a new sulfuric acid pump for the treatment plant and noted that chemical suppliers and pump specifications limit available solutions, so they are arranging for a 75% sulfuric solution (pumps currently used are not rated for the 93% solution previously in use).
At the well field, staff said well No. 2 showed low output and will be pulled and rebuilt, and well No. 3 has an electrical short somewhere between the gate and the plant. TNT will run diagnostic testing later in the week to locate the short; staff described plans to install two additional junction boxes and re-route wiring to avoid a full pull of the entire line. Total repair costs were not specified.
Public works staff framed these items as routine operations and said they are coordinating with vendors (TNT, Bass and Logan) to minimize disruption.
