Council hears police and public works reports, announces hazardous-waste collection and summer events

At the June 2 meeting the council received routine departmental reports and a set of community announcements.

James B, representing the police department, reported 126 calls for service last month, seven citations, 58 warnings, one parking ticket, three criminal arrests (including one felony and two warrant services) and six accidents. He also flagged several buildings in the park that lack consistent addressing in the town mapping and said he will follow up on naming/numbering streets as needed.

Randy and public-works staff reported flow-meter calibration, a sewer backup at 108 Howard Street that was cleared, discovery of a cracked storm line at 810 Monroe Street, and renewal of the town's NPDES permit (five-year cycle). Staff also said they are pursuing grant funds for a replacement vacuum/backhoe truck; transcript flow-volume numbers read aloud appear garbled and are noted in clarifying_details for verification.

Staff announced hazardous-waste collection on June 7 (8 a.m. to noon at the municipal shop), the Hog Jog car-show breakfast on June 14, town office closure for July 4, and fireworks on July 4. Jessica Heater noted circus setup logistics for a show on June 11 with gates opening at 4 p.m. and performances at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; staff said volunteers and first-responders will be coordinated and that tickets are available at the library.
