Edwardsport officials accept October financial report; water plant reports brief ammonia spike

Edwardsport town officials accepted the October financial report during the meeting and received a operations update on water and sewer services.

The finance presenter reported a general fund ending balance of $45,996.50 and combined accounts totaling $293,472.18. Several line-item figures in the oral report were not clearly transcribed in the meeting record and are therefore not specified here.

Matt, who was identified in the meeting as the person giving the water-plant update, said, “The plant is running well.” He told the board there was “one spike in ammonia last week, but it was not out of our permitted limits.” Matt described the cause as excess air diverted into the digester with insufficient aeration in the basin; levels returned to normal the following day.

Matt also reported a broken air valve at the plant that had been secured temporarily and that a replacement stainless-steel glove valve is backordered until after Thanksgiving. He said door handles and locks at the plant were replaced after the east-side door was found standing open. Matt told the board he will be out of town Jan. 4–11 and that he will coordinate coverage with Danny and contractor Willie from Bitnel to ensure sampling and lab work continue.

Town officials took no additional formal action on utilities beyond accepting the report. Staff indicated they would follow up on the backordered valve and the winterization checks noted by the sewer and street personnel.
